Who are they:
Umbrella scientists, though Wesker later becomes a member of S.T.A.R.S. (although he's still working for Umbrella until the first game's events) from the Resident Evil series. In the RE game timeline (starting from the first game) Birkin is 36 years old, and Wesker is 38.

Why we like them:
Wesker is hot, and Birkin is a cute scatterbrained scientist. That was what we thought when we first saw them, anyway. Opinions hasn't changed much over time, since Wesker is still hot and Birkin is scatterbrained, but there's just so much more in their characters. They start as Umbrella scientists at the Umbrella training facility and then work together as the Arklay Labs head scientists for years. Yes, easy to see them get quite... close, there, don't you think?

They are both quite intelligent, and, as we see them, the type who doesn't really care about sex. Their bodies just might argue on that part - and that's what they have each other for. Pleasure doesn't really require your partner to be a certain gender, anyway.

Our setting:
Varies, although we usually consider them becoming lovers sometime back in when they met. Wesker does later leave to do other work and meanwhile Birkin gets married at some point and has a kid, while still working for Umbrella. That surely wouldn't stop them from staying in touch, though.

What our settings lacks, however, is the stereotypical Evil Seme Wesker x Weak Uke Birkin approach; we consider that to be out of character for them. Birkin is just too brilliant, and he could easily take either part in bed; he's quite reversible in our opinion. Wesker meanwhile is usually thought to be the one on top (especially with Chris) but with someone as smart and possibly manipulative as Birkin, it's very likely that he would give in to the other man.

There are several settings that seem to be popular with the fans, and while some are okay, there are some that we totally just don't get because they can be very stereotypical and sometimes quite angst-ridden. We do understand some people are stuck in the "Wesker can't be anything else than on top" mind set, but come on, real-life gay relationships rarely work like that. Resident Evil has a somewhat real-world setting so can't just pull the fantasy excuse here.

One more note - no, we do not deny the existence of Annette Birkin, but the fact that a character is married has rarely stopped anyone from writing fics.
